Srinagar, February 09 (KMS): The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has adopted novel way to garner public support against the killings in the Valley by launching a website through his I-phone. Placed under house arrest, Mirwaiz couldn’t march to the United Nations Military Observers Group here to register protest against the recent killings.

The APHC Chairman launched a website with his pre-recorded video-messages in English and Kashmiri tracing the history of Kashmir dispute and urging the people to voice their concern over the human rights violations by Indian troops. The website – http://web.me.com/mirwaiz/kashmir/Welcome.html – urges international community to take note of the rights violations and warns that delaying resolution of the Kashmir dispute will “continue to send thousands of innocent victims to graves.” He has also kept a link- http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/hr-kashmir – wherein people can express their concern over the rights abuses.

The Media Review Network (MRN) has strongly opposed the possibility of a new sex channel on television, saying it will further tear at the "moral fabric of society." Pay TV service Multichoice is considering broadcasting pornography on its DSTV satellite bouquet however details of what kind of explicit material will be shown is still unknown.

According to the network’s Ayesha Laher, any form of pornography is "morally wrong" in all societies and the broadcasting of pornography on a pay-TV service would allow for easier access to the general public. She said the consideration was a clear sign of the "moral decline" of societies.

"It’s disgusting to think that people want this readily available. Before it was very difficult finding pornography, but now people want it at their leisure and the easier it is to find, the more people will watch," she said. Laher said this move would have huge implications on the moral and religious values upheld in communities. Children will now have direct access to pornographic material and parents will not have much control over this

Zionism a ‘Terrible Enemy’ of Jewish People

All Jews are Zionists. All Zionists are Jews. All Jews support Israel. These cliches are not only wrong; they are dangerous.

What is Zionism?

Zionism is a product of European history. Among the many tendencies within Zionism, the one that has triumphed formulated four objectives:

 to transform the transnational and extraterritorial Jewish identity centred on the Torah into a national identity, like ones then common in Europe;

  •   to develop a new national language based on biblical and rabbinical Hebrew;
  •   to transfer the Jews from their countries of origin to Palestine; and
  •   to establish political and economic control over the land, if need be by force.

While other European nationalists, such as Poles or Lithuanians, needed only to wrest control of their countries from imperial powers to become "masters in their own houses," Zionists faced a far greater challenge in trying to achieve their objectives.

Both Zionists and their opponents agree that Zionism and the state of Israel constitute a break with Jewish history, a break that began with the emancipation and the secularisation of European Jews in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Academic scholarship a missing link at university of pretoria?

Martin Luther King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Since 2007, Hussein Solomon, a lecturer at the University of Pretoria, has presented papers on Global Jihad and Terrorism in Africa: Sub-Saharan Africa, Islamic Fundamentalist Ideologies in Africa and most recently, Global Jihad: The South African Front on various academic platforms.

Although at pains to stress that the views represented in the papers are his and not that of the university or the Department of Political Sciences, Solomon enjoys the use and protection of an academic platform under the guise of ‘academic freedom’ to express opinions which are unsubstantiated. What is more troublesome is that he continues to promote spurious opinions under the guise of ‘academic research’ thus giving the impression that UP lacks credible standards for academic research.
