Eid Mubarak

All praise to the Almighty for blessing us with Eid-ul-Adha on  Monday 12th September 2016.  As with everything in Islam, we celebrate this joyous occasion with the remembrance and worship of Allah.

The institution of Hajj is one of the important articles which form the basis of Islam. During our performance of Hajj we proclaim to the All Mighty that we are in His presence, that He has no partners and He is the sovereign power over all of creation. This covenant with our Creator must remain with us for always  so that it is not interpreted as a ritual which is forgotten as soon as we complete the Hajj. If we lose our way in the jungle of consumerism,  the performance of Hajj becomes a deliberate distortion of rituals. We will deny ourselves the benefits of completing this special article of faith.

Eid-ul-Adha is a time for sacrifice. Sacrifice forms an integral part of practical Islam. Sacrifice teaches discipline. Through sacrifice we are able to control the ego so that we do not surrender ourselves to basic instinct (Nafs).

If we understand nothing else about the Deen but this, it will open our hearts and minds and enable us to see the untold beauty in our Deen.

Islam is a religion that removes distinctions of wealth, class, position and authority. Every act of ibadah in Islam is meant to be non-discriminatory. Yet, war, poverty, and deprivation are conditions that many people in the world face.

In Islam democracy means equality and justice for all. This can be achieved through selflessness and sacrifice.

The world is struggling with a spike in racism and discrimination in various forms. The observance of Hajj should become a vehicle through which these man-made barriers must be overcome, at least within the confines of our various communities.

In Shaa Allah.

The Media Review Network wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-ul-Adha and a happy family day.

May Allah (SWT) accept all our sacrifices and we make duaa that this period will herald a new dawn in our quest for a better life for all. Ameen.
