The Media Review Network – South Africa welcomes the overwhelming support for the motion tabled by the New Freedom Party for the government to downgrade the SA embassy in Apartheid Israel.
Passed by 208 votes in support of the motion introduced by NFP’s Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam, the resolution was voted against by 94 mostly DA, ACDP, FF+ and IFP MPs. This is evidence of where these parties obtain some of their funding from.
MRN congratulates both Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam and the NFP for tabling this brave and crucial motion in solidarity with Palestine.
We also call upon government to swiftly implement this important motion. In fact, MRN calls upon government to go a step further and break off all diplomatic, economic and military ties with the cancerous Zionist regime occupying Historic Palestine.
Finally, we call upon government to abandon its misplaced commitment to a two-state solution (more like a two-state delusion) and take up the fight for single democratic state for all indigenous inhabitants of Historic Palestine.

PARLIAMENT TO DEBATE RESOLUTION TO DOWNGRADE EMBASSY IN ISRAEL
2 March 2023
The National Freedom Party (NFP) will introduce a resolution in Parliament today – March 2, 2023 – to downgrade the South Africa’s embassy in Israel. This resolution is a response to the gross human rights violations being committed against Palestinians.
“The National Freedom Party strongly condemns Israeli discriminatory and apartheid practices towards Palestinians. It is unacceptable that millions of Palestinians have been forcibly transferred from their homes and lands, deprived of their fundamental human rights, and subjected to severe physical and mental abuse,” stated NFP Leader in Parliament, Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam.
The NFP believes that it is South Africa’s duty to stand in solidarity with Palestinians and demand accountability from Israel. The resolution would demonstrate our commitment as a country to justice, human rights, and freedom. If passed, it will send a powerful message to the world that South Africa remains a beacon of hope and a shining example of what is possible when we come together in pursuit of a more just and equitable world.
“The introduction of this resolution to downgrade South Africa’s embassy in Israel is a crucial step in demonstrating our commitment to human rights and justice. We call on all Members of Parliament to support this resolution and send a clear message that South Africa will not tolerate apartheid or any form of racial discrimination,” stated Shaik Emam.
The debate will be broadcast live on DSTV channel 408 and the parliamentary YouTube page from 2 pm South African time. Members of the public are encouraged to tune in and witness this historic moment.
