The Media Review Network (MRN) welcomes the decision by the South African government to grant visa-free access to Palestinians wishing to visit our country.
In a move long overdue, government has granted ordinary Palestinian passport holders visa-free access for 90 days, overturning the previous oppressive visa access requirements.
Spearheaded by MRN, the relentless efforts in parliament of Ahmed Munzoor Sheik Emam of the National Freedom Party and other Palestinian solidarity organisations, visa-free access unlocks greater opportunities for collaboration between Palestinians resistance factions, civil society organisations and academics and their South Africa counterparts.
The South African government must be commended for this bold and important gesture to oppressed Palestinians.
The MRN further calls upon government to go a step further and break off all diplomatic, economic and military ties with the Zionist settler colonial entity.
We should close the liaison office, expel the representative of the Zionist entity and support all efforts, including the arm struggle, to liberate Palestinians from the clutches of the evil Zionist regime currently occupying Historic Palestine.
This is an important step in the right direction but much more needs to be done.
