The Media Review Network (MRN) strongly condemns Israel’s latest breach of the ceasefire, which has resulted in the massacre of over 400 Palestinians, including children and infants, across Gaza. This escalation, which saw attacks on Rafah, Khan Yunus, Gaza City, and Deir El Balah, highlights Israel’s persistent violations of agreements and its deliberate targeting of civilians.
In a devastating turn of events, the renewed bombardment of Gaza has once again left countless Palestinian families grieving. Denied necessities such as water, electricity, and humanitarian aid, Palestinians continue to endure relentless aggression while Israeli forces simultaneously carry out assassinations in the West Bank. These actions reflect the Israeli occupation’s long-standing history of treachery and impunity.
NETANYAHU’S WAR STRATEGY: A SHIELD FROM JUSTICE
The timing of this latest assault coincides conveniently with the postponement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial. Facing multiple charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, Netanyahu has a well-documented history of using war to distract from his legal troubles and to consolidate his grip on power.
Legal proceedings against Netanyahu include:
- Case 1000 (The “Gifts Affair”): Netanyahu is accused of accepting lavish gifts, including cigars and champagne, from wealthy businessmen in exchange for political favors.
- Case 2000: Allegations that Netanyahu negotiated favorable media coverage with an Israeli newspaper publisher in return for legislative support.
- Case 4000: Accusations that Netanyahu promoted regulatory benefits worth hundreds of millions of dollars to a telecommunications mogul in exchange for positive news coverage.
By reigniting military aggression, Netanyahu has effectively diverted public attention away from his legal battles. His strategy is clear: as long as Israel remains at war, his prosecution is delayed, and his grip on power remains intact.
The Media Review Network calls on the South African government and the international guarantors of the ceasefire to take firm action against Israel with punitive economic and political sanctions. How many more Palestinian children must die to save Netanyahu’s political career?
