Nove Dedos – nine fingers for democracy A-Poem for Lula

By Hassen Lorgat

Nove Dedos – nine fingers for democracy
Nove Dedos, he screamed
Flavio fascinaro thought he could throw insults
Like his mentors mentor Trump
But it did not land
Calling Lula nine fingers was too much for the president
-Flavio, the militiaman never had to work a day in his life
-Was never hungry

Whilst he, Lula, was forced to work as a teenager,
only to lose a finger but the people’s history remembers
how the brave Lula, working night shift
was called out to fix a broken machine
at 3am, his left pinky finger was crushed

and from then on, the gap of the missing finger
was filled as the reminder and conscience of the struggles of the worker
The workers party in return use their fingers and ask others to join
“Faz o L”, they show and shout “Make the L”
L is for Lula
With his nine fingers and his commitment to the workers and the poor
He has so many fingers for all the causes that he championed, those who now celebrate with him and the Workers Party
One finger for Autonomy and sovereignty,
another for the landless and the poor,
the other for the Palestinians and against genocide,
All the other fingers united in a clenched first
for a just world working together
Lula has enough fingers to make his point heard
He takes his index and middle fingers, and makes the shape of a V
And with the palm facing inwards he shouts in his shopstewards voice
UP YOURS Donald
Up Yours to Meta and all the big tech crooks in Silicon Valley
But with so many causes to support at home, the continent and the world
Lula will need more fingers and hands, and shoulders to the wheel
For this, he can count on his others
Dedos de pe
Fingers of the feet
In the long march to freedom and liberty from below
Ends
