Left Claims Ban is "Patriotic"

By Jonathan Cook

(source: The National)

The only three Arab parties represented in the Israeli parliament vowed yesterday to fight a decision by the Central Elections Committee to bar them from running in next month’s general election.

In an unprecedented move signalling a further breakdown in Jewish-Arab relations inside Israel, all the main Jewish parties voted on Monday for the blanket disqualification. Several committee members equated the Arab parties’ vocal support for the Gazan people with support for terrorism.

The decision follows the arrest of at least 600 Arab demonstrators since the outbreak of the Gaza offensive and the interrogation by the secret police of dozens of Arab community leaders. The three parties — the National Democratic Assembly, the United Arab List and the Renewal Movement — have seven legislators out of a total of 120 in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.

Nakba vs 2 state solution

nakba

On the surface and viewed from the perspective of dominating powers, their designated minions, and entrenched cohorts, it may appear that the Nakba is diminishing.  Several facts corroborate that view:  the passage of time, the very dispossession and dislocation of millions, the tendency of official Palestinian "leadership" to accept whatever scraps they are given, the seemingly insurmountable military superiority of Israel and its main backer, the United States, to name a few.

Discursively also, talk of the Nakba has been curtailed, especially among official Palestinian Authority officials and Arab governments.  It has been increasingly replaced by details and technicalities that avoid dealing with the crux of the Palestinian predicament.

Scandal in goa as Isaraeli drug dealer boasts of police corruption on youtube

By Rhys Blakely,Mumbai

(source: Times UK Online)

The story has all the elements of an airport potboiler: a tropical beach setting; a heavily tattooed Israeli drugs dealer; a handful of corrupt detectives; and a Swedish model-cum-Bollywood dancer who goes by the name of “Lucky”.

When Yaniv Banaim, an Israeli drugs dealer working in the western Indian state of Goa, boasted to a pneumatic Swedish blonde of how he regularly received large amounts of cannabis and ecstasy from the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the local police force, he did not suspect that he was being filmed. He certainly did not expect the woman in question — Lucky Nova Mangarda Amori — to post the incriminating footage on YouTube.

The confession — which contained a detailed explanation of how drugs confiscated by the ANC are allegedly sold back to dealers in Goa — has sparked a corruption scandal that threatens to expose several senior police chiefs. For now, six ANC officers have been suspended while corruption and drugs charges are investigated.

New weapons experimented in Gaza

Population Risks Genetic Mutations

By New Weapons Committee

(source: Uruknet.info)

Toxic and carcinogenic metals, able to produce genetic mutations, have been found in the tissues of people wounded in Gaza during Israeli military operations of 2006 and 2009. The research has been carried out on wounds provoked by weapons that did not leave fragments in the bodies of the victims, a peculiarity that was pointed out repeatedly by doctors in Gaza. This shows that experimental weapons, whose effects are still to be assessed, were used.

The researchers compared the quantity of 32 elements present in the tissues through ICP/MS (a type of highly sensitive mass spectrometry) . The job, carried out by laboratories of Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), Chalmer University (Sweden) and Beirut University (Lebanon), was coordinated by the New Weapons Research Group (Nwrg), an independent committee of scientists and experts based in Italy, who is studying the use of unconventional weapons and their mid-term effects on the population of after-war areas. The relevant presence of toxic and carcinogenic metals found in the wound tissues points to direct risks for survivors, but also to the possibility of environmental contamination.
