Sa chief rabbis defense of Isaraeli war crimes is untenable absurd

by Ebrahim Suliman

(source: MMN)

"The issue of malicious intent and the lack of evidence raised by the learned Rabbi as an aspect of substantive injustice is self evidently absurd. The report in itself is directed to present evidence of the violation of human rights, etc. by the Israeli army in Gaza."

In an article intended as a rebuttal of the Goldstone Report, South Africa’s Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein, states that according to the Talmud : “The world stands on three things: truth, justice & peace.”
With due respect to the Rabbi, it is my submission that his argument is faulty and militates against the concepts of truth, justice and peace!

An act of war

By Congressman Ron Paul

Statement of Congressman Ron Paul – United States House of Representatives

Statement on Motion to Instruct Conferees on HR 2194, Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act – April 22, 2010

"United States House of Representatives"

I rise in opposition to this motion to instruct House conferees on HR 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act, and I rise in strong opposition again to the underlying bill and to its Senate version as well. I object to this entire push for war on Iran, however it is disguised. Listening to the debate on the Floor on this motion and the underlying bill it feels as if we are back in 2002 all over again: the same falsehoods and distortions used to push the United States into a disastrous and unnecessary one trillion dollar war on Iraq are being trotted out again to lead us to what will likely be an even more disastrous and costly war on Iran. The parallels are astonishing.

Appeal to media do not distort middle east talks

By Ibrahim Vawda

The Media Review Network notes that the Middle East talks, convened by Barack Obama, are being proclaimed in the media as “talks” between Israel and the “Palestinians”, symbolised by Mahmood Abbas.   Mahmood Abbas is just another “Bantustan” leader, who lost his legitimacy when his term of office ended when his Party, Fatah, lost the elections in 2006. He is embarking on yet another odyssey of national betrayal.
Talks  with a defeated leader of a political Party cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be projected as talks with Palestinians. It is precisely for this reason that the Media Review Network would like to appeal to the South African Media not to refer to these “talks” as between Israel and the "Palestinians". The “Bantustan regime” of Mahmood Abbas is illicit and is no more than a surrogate appendage of Israel and Washington. He is merely a pliant tool of the US dependent on US sponsorship and support to remain in power against an impatient and hostile Palestinian population.

A very well known Arab proverb says: “The Mountain went into labour, and then gave birth to a rat.” This likely scenario of the Middle East talks in Washington today, is more than mere speculation.

Jack straws attack on the pakistani community

By Yvonne Ridley

(source: Counterpunch.org)

Has an open season of hate been declared on the Pakistani community in Britain? I have to ask after listening to a former Labour minister’s astonishing attack on young, Pakistani men in recent days.

Using the same politics of race – which cost neighboring ex-MP Phil Woolas his seat – Jack Straw launched what I can only describe as a hateful blast on the Pakistani community in Britain. The former UK foreign and home secretary accused some Pakistani men of seeing white girls as “easy meat” for sexual abuse. In a speech which could have come from the pages of a BNP election leaflet, the Blackburn MP talked of a “specific problem” involving Pakistani men and called on the community to be “more open” about the issue.

All of this only days before a crucial by-election in Britain in a constituency where the predominant minority community hails from Pakistan. He launched his attack after two Asian men subjected a series of vulnerable girls to rapes and sexual assaults. The two were, quite rightly, given indefinite jail terms. Personally, I thought life sentences would have been more appropriate for what they did.

Abid Mohammed Saddique, 27, was jailed for a minimum of 11 years at Nottingham Crown Court and Mohammed Romaan Liaqat, 28, was told he must serve at least eight years before being considered for release.  They were the leaders of a gang who befriended girls aged from 12 to 18 in the Derby area and groomed them for sex.

As a journalist of more than 35 years, I’ve sat through countless court cases and trials and listened to similar, horrific stories pour forth. As long as there are vulnerable young women, of no particular faith and skin color, they will be targeted by criminally-driven men of no particular faith and skin colour. Having lived in Soho, London’s so-called red light district, for two decades, I’ve watched the prostitution and drug rings change hands from the control of English to Maltese to Turkish to Albanian male gangs.
