Eid message from the presidency to all muslims in south Africa

The celebration of Eidul Fitr comes after fasting and sacrificing in the month of Ramadaan. It is the celebration of those who have purified and renewed themselves. Renewal is ever necessary for individuals and societies, and renewal is often best achieved following a period of sacrifice and hardship. The Muslim Community has shown a willingness to impose on themselves abstention from food and drink, but also from negative habits during Ramadaan.

It has been such purposeful faith that has allowed the Muslim community to become an important and integrated part of our nation.

South Africa has not designated Muslims equal to other citizens because we do Muslims a favor. They are equal citizens; enjoying both shared and unique rights, because they have earned them through centuries of suffering and resistance, as slaves and exile under colonialism and inferior citizens under apartheid.

On the day of Eidul Fitr, we too as a government renew our commitment to Muslims as equal, fellow citizens, living together in peace and harmony in a democratic South Africa

President of the Republic of South Africa

More than 5000 congolese cross into uganda

  • by

The U.N. refugee agency says 5,680 Congolese have fled fighting in eastern Congo and crossed into Uganda over the past three days.

Spokeswoman Roberta Russo says the Congolese refugees lived in villages and at Nakivale refugee camp near the border. The agency released the information today.

The fighting pits Congo’s army against a rebel group claiming to be protecting the area’s Tutsi minority.

Different groups have fought Congolese soldiers in eastern Congo for several years. Residents in the region normally flee to Uganda and then return home when things calm down.

Spotlight on Palestine an interview with stuart littlewood

By Angie Tibbs

(source: www.redress.cc)

British writer and photographer Stuart Littlewood talks to Angie Tibbs about his experience of Israel’s occupation in Gaza and the West Bank, and comments on how British and American collusion, under the auspices of the Jewish lobby, is helping to sustain the world’s most lawless, brutal and unjust occupation regime.

"Lawlessness must have painful consequences for the lawless, not their victims." (Stuart Littlewood)

Stuart Littlewood is one of the most consistent and passionate writers on the continuing Israeli occupation of Palestine. His book, Radio Free Palestine, and his frequent articles, focus readers on the plight of the Palestinian people, on the occupiers who are responsible, and on the governments who support Israel’s slow-motion genocide and theft of an indigenous people’s homeland, culture and history. I spoke with him recently.

Egypt on the eve of the Gaza war anniversary

  • by

By Yvonne Ridley

The activities of the rent boys who parade up and down Al-Shawarby Street in Cairo provide a good metaphor for the relationship the Egyptian Government has with Israel and the USA.

Both are quite shameless and ruthless; prepared to do whatever it takes to please … in order to secure a fistful of dollars.
But at least the man whores of Al Shawarby are honest about their trade, as they eagerly hustle potential customers.

Yes, they are shameless but so is the Egyptian Government as it continues to enforce the brutal siege in Gaza for Israel’s pleasure, and America’s dollars. The tears it sheds for the besieged people of Gaza are crocodilian.
