The Media Review Network is intensely surprised that the Daily Maverick Online has given credence to allegations which lack substance and credibility to an article by De Wet Potgieter “AlQaeda: Alive and well in South Africa”.

The author made similar outrageous claims in an article which appeared in the New Age of May 13th 2011. “SA’s Al Qaeda links revealed”.

The Daily Maverick article is reflective of the paranoia, which so-called “terror experts” like Hussein Solomon want to promote.

Details in the article are laced with speculation and include information that bear no relevance to Al Qaeda nor does it assert any terror training.

The Media Review Network calls on the South African media not to feed into this untested and unproven narrative which only serve to fuel the flames of Islamophobia, xenophobia and racism.
