Arrest of South African Greenpeace Activist – Kumi Naidoo
Tuesday, 21 June 2011
The Media Review Network has learnt with grave concern of the arrest of the South African head of the Greenpeace movement and is being held in a Greenland prison.
Kumi Naidoo was on board the Greenpeace ship, the Esparanza, in the Arctic region, where they were protesting against the drilling of fossil fuel and its impact on climate change.
This brave stand taken by Kumi and his Greenpeace movement must be hailed and supported by all citizens of the world if we are to secure a safe and clean environment and to protect our planet against the effects of climate change as a legacy for future generations. Who can forget the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico?
The Media Review Network calls on the International community in general and the South African Government in particular to engage the relevant authorities to ensure the safe and immediate release of Kumi Naidoo and his colleagues.
