Petition to Egyptian Embassy – Open Rafah Crossing
Thursday, 25 August 2011
The Media Review Network (MRN) endorses the call from the people of Gaza, demanding that the Egyptian Authorities re-open the Rafah Crossing, unconditionally and on a permanent basis. This call is supported by international organisations, solidarity movements, citizens groups and associations including COSATU and the Palestine Solidarity Alliance, as well as by distinguished international personalities.
The MRN will form part of a delegation of Solidarity Activists that will deliver a petition to the Egyptian Embassy in Pretoria. The petition demands that the Government of Egypt immediately open up the Rafah Crossing permanently and unconditionally. The safety and security of the Palestinians using the Crossing must also be guaranteed. The meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador has been scheduled for 11am tomorrow, Friday, 26th August 2011.
The Geneva Conventions entitles all people to freedom of movement and protection from collective punishment. The closure of the Crossing violates this basic code of the Conventions.
