67 YEARS ON: THE BRUTALITY CONTINUES

The Media Review Network (MRN) is not surprised at the latest round of Zionist barbarism  directed at the hapless and defenceless civilian population in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Ever since the destruction of Palestine in 1948, and the Zionist state of Israel was established on its ashes, the history of Palestine can be divided into 3 phases of approximately 20 years each. The first phase, 1948 – 1967, the ethnic cleansing of 90% of the Palestinian population and the destruction of more than 500 Palestinian villages took place. The second phase was the  expansionist phase (1967 – 1987) which included the capture of the Sinai, Golan Heights, West Bank and the Gaza. The Oslo Accords of 1993 heralded the 3rd phase and was the era of managing the occupation.

The latest aggression and killings witnessed in the Occupied West Bank, Gaza  and East Jerusalem is the continuation of these phases. It is accompanied by the intensification of the occupation, development of illegal settlements and the continued implementation of Apartheid Zionism unique in colonial history. Massacres and state terrorism continue today with killing of unarmed civilians by trigger happy Israeli soldiers and colonial settlers, home demolitions, political imprisonment without trials and with ill treatment, prevention of rights of movement, religious rights, and other civil rights.

This Zionist project is illegal, immoral and unethical, a reality recognized by the international community. The evil of a fanatical religious element sadly supported by many in the Diaspora, including South Africa, claiming that Palestine was given to the Jews by God three thousand years ago is anathema to humanists and the principles of human rights. Some 2000 years ago The Romans conquered Britain. Would the Italians now claim Britain back by producing some ancient parchment signed and sealed by God?

The MRN calls on the International Community to take immediate action and fulfil its legal and moral obligations. We deplore the inaction of the United Nations, The African Union, the Association of South East Asian Nations and other international groupings. Their repeated failures to condemn the illegal Zionist entity make them culpable in the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians.  The silence of the international community towards these crimes  encourages the Zionist government to continue its policy that violates all international humanitarian laws.
