Dr. Muhammed Morsi and the United Nations.

The Media Review Network (MRN) is thrilled to note that the Muslim Lawyers Association in Johannesburg, South Africa, has submitted an official complaint pertaining to the illegal arrest and incarceration of the democratically elected Egyptian leader, Dr. Muhammad Morsi. The complaint was lodged at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Mohammed Morsi was illegally removed as Egyptian Head of State in a military coup supported by the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia, on the 3rd of January 2013. He is being held in solitary confinement ever since and having his civil liberties eroded. This erosion goes contrary to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) pronounced his detention as being unjustified and that he was at risk of being tortured and ill -treated. This has been proved to be correct and that no steps have been taken to protect Dr. Morsi against this continued violation of his human rights.

Recently President Morsi addressed the Egyptian Court wherein he informed the court that he has not seen his family since his detention, he is forced to eat rotten food, forced to sleep on the floor despite his ailing health, denied access to his legal team and no reasons given for his solitary confinement.

Is Dr. Morsi being held hostage so that freedom loving people of justice and fairness have to turn to international organisations for recourse to ensure that these human rights are respected?/ Let it be known that treatment of prisoners is guided by principles, rules and legislature to protect human dignity.

The MRN supports the Muslim Lawyers Association in lodging this complaint and we compliment them for having the courage of their convictions and to create an awareness regarding the dilemma facing Dr. Morsi.
