DIRCO statement welcomed but concrete action also needed

Media Review Network (MRN) welcomes the statement issued by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) condemning the wanton attacks on the Al Aqsa mosque compound and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre In Occupied Jerusalem.

These dastardly attacks on Christians and Muslims wanting to pray at the holy sites is an affront to their dignity for which the occupying Zionist entity must be held accountable.

The fact that Israel’s military has been given Carte Blanche by its Zionist extremist Prime Minister, Natalie Bennett, to carry out such attacks has resulted in hundreds being injured and unduly arrested.

One Palestinian man has recently slipped into a coma as a result of the severity of his injuries. Walid al-Sharif, 21, was wounded by Israeli police and is in critical condition in a Jerusalem hospital.

MRN urges the South African government to go beyond mere condemnation and requests President Ramaphosa to take a firm public stance against Israel.

MRN further urges the president to go beyond rhetorical condemnation and lead an international campaign at the United Nations to insist that Israel abides by all the UNSC resolutions.

The era of the two-state delusion is over and it behoves SA to be cognisant of the reality on the ground confronting Palestinians – one state for all indigenous peoples of the land
