WE REJECT THE RECALL OF ISRAELI AMBASSADOR: HE MUST BE EXPELLED AND EMBASSY CLOSED.

MEDIA STATEMENT: 21 NOVEMBER 2023

The right-wing, Zionist state of Israel has announced recall of its ambassador to South Africa for
briefing. The Israeli government decision is clearly in anticipation to the parliamentary vote for the
expulsion of the ambassador. We reject this decision with an absolute contempt it deserves. It
amounts to cowardly evasion by the Apartheid Israeli state of the open denouncement of its Settler
Colonialism in Palestine and its ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza. Most importantly, it leaves the
matter in the discretion of the Israeli state and its far-right regime. It means they can return the
Ambassador as they deem it fit.

GIWUSA demand that the Israeli Ambassador be expelled and declared Persona Non Grata in terms of
the relevant international protocols. We further demand termination of all diplomatic and economic
ties with the state of Israel.

ANC vacillating on the cutting ties.

We have noted the media reports especially Sunday Times (19 November 23) that the ANC
government has not intention of fully terminating diplomatic relations with the Zionist state of Israel.
According to this report, DIRCO cite economic hardships as the main consideration. This is consistent
with the policy ANC government has been pursuing to tying the country’s economy to Zionist
corporations. GIWUSA warned about the logic of this policy at the time of the take-over of the
company we organise, Clover, by Milco, an Israeli company operating in illegal Jewish settlements on
Palestinian lands. We warned at the time that the ANC is preparing for the betrayals of the Palestinian
masses and their struggles the same way it has betrayed the struggles of the working class in this
country, including Clover workers. We pointed out that they were laying grounds for blackmailing us
with the logic that we cannot bite the hand that feed us.

GIWUSA Demands

We want government to implement comprehensive Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions targeted at
all institutions of the Israeli state, and corporations that are complicit in the crimes against Palestinian
people. The way to protect jobs in these industries with Zionist investments is to expropriate them
and bring them under public ownership based on the workers control and management.

We further demand prosecution of all Zionist mercenaries in this country who participate in the Israeli
military and its genocide against the people of Palestine.
