Ode to a Martyr

By Iqbal Suleman

Your beloved parents named you Hassan

Like our Master gave to his grandson

You were manifestation of the prayer of Imam Hussein

Your smile shone like the rising sun

Farewell Oh martyr of the century

Farewell Oh leader of every revolutionary

Mourning tears now fill the rivers to the sea

The heart breaks and yearns for your company

Zionists shivered when they heard the name Nasrallah

You emulated the method of Mustapha

You alone deserved the mantle of Asadullah

Rest now in the company of Aba Abdullah

In Gaza, nights knew no sleep

Only sounds of the orphan weep

No bread, butter or water

Just blood, bombs and slaughter

In the Palace in Saudi Arabia

The king slept softly

In the Palace in Turkiye

The President slept sweetly

In the Palace in Egypt

Walks a cowardly Abdul Fatah

In the Palace in Jordan

Sits the lame king Abdallah

In the Palace in Damascus

Sits a toothless Ahmed Al Sharaa

In the Palace in Doha

Sits a mediator Emir of Qatar

They retreated to their palatial villas

As the genocide raged in Gaza

While you obeyed the command of Allah

To fight for the oppressed people in Gaza

Your blood Shaheed Nasrallah

Paints a clear red path

That distinguishes courage from cowardice

That separates the men from the mice

You had no palace or palatial villa

You lived like Mustapha

Catching a few hours on the hard floor

Moving daily from door to door

The Kalima of the martyrs

Filled the air in Dahiyeh

As the blood of your warriors

Mixed with the martyrs of Gaza

You walked the talk on Gaza solidarity

On 8 October fighting the Israeli military

From the resistance you never could bend

While not one bullet did all the kings and presidents send

You changed the world in July of 2006

When Israel suffered its first military defeat

You were our collective confidence and courage

Our pride, our honour and our dignity

You are the expression of self –sacrifice and shahaadah

In the end, a glorious martyr

You will forever live in our hearts

We will never be apart
