They thought he was their trump card

By  Hassen Lorgat

They thought he was their trump card

So they complained in their echo chambers of lies and deceit,

About their poor white problem and land grabbing,

As the queues of want and rage grew long.

it dawned upon them that…

…the patience of the masses is not limitless.

They thought he was their trump card

When he tried to steal Panama’s canal

Or even to colonise Greenland

Or hike taxes of those who dare to be free

those who dare to be free

They thought he was their trump card

Until he touched Palestine,

He promised to take Gaza and turn it into their Riviera

This left him standing alone

The Gazans stood proud in their tents of resistance

No Pasaran they repeat the slogan

Long used against fascists

No Pasaran

No Pasaran

Even his friends

From  near and far chanted No Pasaran

Palestine’s neighbours

from the river nile to the land of the two holy mosques

and the kingdom of the hashemites

They thought he was their trump card

All chanted No Pasaran  the cry of the anti fascists

They thought he was their trump card

In Palestine he met his achilles heel

PALESTINE IS NOT FOR SALE

As the sun set

The paper giant slinks away, tail between his legs.
