Iran secures ceasefire on its terms as US halts attacks, with Tehran advancing 10-point plan for negotiations.

Iran secured a two-week ceasefire with the United States following intensive negotiations and regional mediation, with Tehran linking the halt in military operations to a full cessation of attacks against its territory.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Iranian forces would suspend operations only under specific conditions tied to the conduct of the United States and its allies.

“In response to the brotherly request of PM Sharif… and the US announcement by POTUS about acceptance of the general framework of Iran’s 10-point proposal as a basis for talks, I hereby declare… If attacks on Iran are halted, our Powerful Armed Forces will cease their defensive operations,” Araghchi said in a statement.

He added that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be permitted for a limited period, under Iranian coordination.

‘Workable Basis’

The ceasefire announcement came shortly before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump, who had warned of escalated attacks if Hormuz was not reopened.

Instead, Trump confirmed a two-week suspension of US attacks, describing Iran’s proposal as a “workable basis” for negotiations.

A senior White House official told CNN that Israel has also agreed to join the ceasefire and suspend its bombing campaigns while talks continue.

The ceasefire extends across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, according to officials involved in the mediation process led by Pakistan.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the agreement and confirmed that negotiations are set to begin in Islamabad, where delegations are expected to work toward a broader settlement.

At the center of the negotiations is Iran’s 10-point proposal, which Tehran has presented as the framework for ending the war.

Iranian Terms

The proposal outlines a series of political, military, and economic conditions tied to any permanent agreement.

Iran’s 10-Point Ceasefire Terms:

  • Commitment to non-aggression by the United States and its allies.
  • Continuation of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Recognition of Iran’s right to uranium enrichment.
  • Lifting of all US primary sanctions.
  • Lifting of all US secondary sanctions.
  • Termination of all United Nations Security Council resolutions against Iran.
  • Termination of all International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors resolutions.
  • Payment of compensation to Iran for damages.
  • Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region.
  • Ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Iranian officials have presented these terms as essential conditions for ensuring national security and stabilizing the region.

The proposal links the ceasefire directly to broader structural changes, including sanctions relief and military withdrawal, while maintaining Iran’s position on nuclear and strategic issues.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a central element of the arrangement, with Iran maintaining oversight of maritime activity during the two-week ceasefire period.

Officials said navigation through the waterway would continue under coordination with Iran’s armed forces, reflecting what Tehran described as technical and security considerations.

Talks in Islamabad are expected to focus on finalizing the terms of a broader agreement based on Iran’s proposal, with mediation efforts continuing as both sides assess the next steps.
