Where truth resides / hides

By Hassen Lorgat

Where truth resides,
the world we inhabit,
the word becomes a casualty.

Truth is a multiple choice question
with options including:
— I do not remember
— I did not lie
— I do not want to self incriminate
— never get caught out.

And ceasefire
justifies killing the other
mercilessly without end.
And Never Again
means only for my tribe and or clan,
but okay to do to others.

The book is googlerised;
soon it too will evaporise
in the moneyed atmosphere of everyday life.

We must save the trees, I know,
but amongst the pruned branches and leaves,
cannot we not remake a few hard copies
for those who come after us?

It’s in the books that the truth resides or hides,
kept in the caves adorned with the drawings of the ancients,
which again will rise to be the keeper of our books.

Where the wise ones
will read from their memory banks and the writings on their tablets,
as we listen,
sitting around the fire,
pondering
where we came from
and where we are going to.
