From a rumor, to a rising murmur, the proposal floated by the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Ramallah leadership to declare Palestinian statehood unilaterally has suddenly hit center stage. The European Union, the United States and others have rejected it as "premature," but endorsements are coming from all directions: journalists, academics, nongovernmental organization activists, Israeli right-wing leaders (more on that later). The catalyst appears to be a final expression of disgust and simple exhaustion with the fraudulent "peace process" and the argument goes something like this: if we can’t get a state through negotiations, we will simply declare statehood and let Israel deal with the consequences.

South Africa deports Isaraeli airline official spying on citizens

By Jonnathan Cook

South Africa deported an Israeli airline official last week following allegations that Israel’s secret police, the Shin Bet, had infiltrated Johannesburg international airport in an effort to gather information on South African citizens, particularly black and Muslim travelers.

The move by the South African government followed an investigation by local TV showing an undercover reporter being illegally interrogated by an official with El Al, Israel’s national carrier, in a public area of Johannesburg’s OR Tambo airport.

The program also featured testimony from Jonathan Garb, a former El Al guard, who claimed that the airline company had been a front for the Shin Bet in South Africa for many years.

ELAL

A decision by the South African government to deport an El Al security official for overstepping their bounds has been hailed by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) and Media Review Network (MRN). The two organisations have for the last two years been waging a battle to have action taken against the airline’s security officials who have notoriously been responsible for racial profiling and interrogating South African citizens who were trying to get to Palestine. Malick said the "bold" move showed political will and determination that no other government – who have faced similar challenges – have been willing to show.

"We must congratulate the SA government who have shown real political will and determination, because this is a global phenomenon where Israel has been violating rights of many international airlines for many years. For example, there have been many complaints from Muslims travelling through New York, Paris, Vienna and Geneva specifically. None of those complaints were dealt with by those airlines or their governments. So alhamdulilah, as South Africans we can be proud that our country has taken the lead and shown that we won’t tolerate such violation against our citizen."

An application recently launched by the amongst others the Media Review Network (MRN) calling on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to investigate South African Jews who served in the Israeli Defence Force (IFD) during Israel’s 22 day bombardment on the Gaza Strip at the end of last year has unsettled some Jewish Facebookers, particularly after the story went global via the Al Jazeera news channel. However, many of them still remain staunch in their perceived duty to serve in the IDF.

"The Gaza investigation by South African lawyers is pathetic, and I don’t find it a shock that they are all Muslim lawyers. What gives them the right to question Israel’s defence to a bombardment of rockets on their civilians? In my opinion it is every Jewish man’s duty to serve in the IDF no matter where they were born. Never in my life have I been more ashamed to be South African. Much respect to all the IDF troops who fought in Gaza," said one 21 year old Johannesburg based IDF Paratrooper.
