Blair cornered opts for more aggressive defense

The public enquiry in UK, about the whole gamut of the British going to war with Iraq, is taking its toll on the main characters in UK, who poodled their way to an illegal and unnecessary war indulged into by a crazy US President and his equally diabolic Vice President’s personal tiff with Iraq’s former dictator, Saddam Hussein.

The enormous price in human sufferings and hundreds and thousands killed in this illegal and most destructive war, has people both in UK and US rising in unison to question the validity and legality of this wanton act of abusing public trust and spending billions of dollars of public fund, that in no measure was the prime cause behind the collapse of the world system of mindless expansion of international credit and the sudden loss of confidence in war economies of the West. War not only destroys the victimized nation, but the aggressors too.

Open letter to professor gil troy

Dear Professor Troy:

You have by now written two articles naming me personally, and have appeared before the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Anti-Semitism to sing the same tune (with reference to me, at least by name, mercifully absent): the "new anti-Semitism," as opposed to the more recognizable Jew-hatred, is directed towards the state of Israel and its policies.

Rather than having the "courage of [your] convictions," you have defined me, a critic of the CPCCA, as an anti-Semite through innuendo and juxtaposition. (Or is that "a new anti-Semite?") You then have the chutzpah to wonder aloud why it is that critics of Israel such as I are concerned about a parliamentary "inquiry" that has all the earmarks of a witch-hunt.

Uk court issued warrant for livni

A British court reportedly issued an arrest warrant for Israel’s former foreign minister on charges relating to Israel’s 22-day war on Gaza, before apparently withdrawing it after it was found she was not in the country. Tzipi Livni, the leader of the opposition Kadima party, had been expected to travel to London this week for an event organised by the Jewish National Fund, followed by meetings with British government officials.

Livni cancelled the visit two weeks before the event was due to take place. Israeli media reported on Monday that Livni had called off the trip fearing that she would be arrested after a pro-Palestinian group won a warrant for her arrest. But Livni’s office said in a statement after the reports that she had declined a request to attend the event in London due to a scheduling conflict and not because of fears of being arrested.

Egypt violates human rights mrn

61 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Egypt continues to pursue clearly discriminatory policies and practices and the violation of the human rights of its civilian population, including the Ikhwanul Muslimeen. So said Ibrahim Vauwda, senior researcher at the Media Review Network (MRN).

"The detention, torture and incarceration of 26 civilians accused of being members of Hizbollah and being tried in a military court is the latest in the long list of human rights violations by the Mubarak regime since coming to power some 28 years ago. In addition, in the Supreme State Security Emergency Court where they appeared, there is no right of appeal. They have also been denied access to their lawyers for six months," Vawda said in a statement on Monday.

According to MRN, Egypt’s "authoritarian and brutal regime which is the root-cause of its human rights violations must cease as demanded by its civilian population and international law. Without human rights and the rule of law there can be no justice, without justice there can be no peace." MRN has now called upon the regime of President Hosni Mubarak to facilitate a free, fair and just trial for the 26 detainees in a civilian court and that the Egyptian judiciary provide guarantees for the same.
