Islam hate suit hits technical snag

Lawyers for top Pretoria academic Hussein Solomon, being sued for allegedly defaming Muslim religious schools, have put the applicants on notice that they intend to "take exception" to the legal papers before court.

"Taking exception" is a legal term meaning the papers are "vague and embarrassing" or lack information required to defend the claim.

In this case, Solomon’s lawyers allege that no link has been made between the Association of Islamic Madrassahs or its affiliates to the alleged defamatory statements.

At least 20 dead after train catches fire in India

At least 20 people were killed, including a pregnant woman, and four were injured after a train caught fire in southern India early today.
Authorities rushed the injured people to a hospital and were investigating the cause of the crash.

The fire appeared to have been caused by a short circuit in the train’s wiring.

The train caught fire early this morning while it was roughly 200 kilometers north of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The passengers pulled the emergency chain to stop the train when the fire broke out and passengers jumped out of the car.

Iraq says time for british troops to go paper

Britain was U.S. President George W. Bush’s main ally in the March 2003 U.S.-led occupation of Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki was quoted on Monday as saying it was time for British soldiers to leave the south of the country because they were no longer needed there.

Maliki told The Times newspaper in an interview there might still be a need for their experience in training Iraqi forces and on some technological issues, but the emphasis was now on business links.

He said "the page has been turned".

"The Iraqi arena is open for British companies and British friendship, for economic exchange and positive cooperation in science and education," he said.

Britain was U.S. President George W. Bush’s main ally in the March 2003 U.S.-led occupation of Iraq.

Britain has 4,100 troops in Iraq at present.
