Press release visit of palestinian parties of Isarael

The Media Review Network welcomes a group of prominent Palestinian politicians and senior academics who are in Gauteng to study South Africa’s transition to democracy.

The 12-person delegation includes representatives of all the Arab political parties of Israel, including 3 secretaries general and other senior party activists, as well as 3 leading Palestinian academics from Israeli universities. The Arab parties represent Palestinians who live in Israel as citizens but experience systematic discrimination as non-Jews in a Jewish state. The delegation has come to learn about South African apartheid and the ANC struggle, seeking insight into their own experience of discrimination in Israel and new ideas for resisting it.

During their two-week programme, they will have talks from senior ANC and other political veterans and will tour key sites of struggle like Constitution Hill and Soweto.

Members of the delegation represent a political spectrum and have varying views on the Palestinian–Israeli conflict. All are experts on discrimination against Palestinian citizens of Israel and can discuss problems regarding housing, services, jobs, education, and health care.

Uk court issued warrant for livni

A British court reportedly issued an arrest warrant for Israel’s former foreign minister on charges relating to Israel’s 22-day war on Gaza, before apparently withdrawing it after it was found she was not in the country. Tzipi Livni, the leader of the opposition Kadima party, had been expected to travel to London this week for an event organised by the Jewish National Fund, followed by meetings with British government officials.

Livni cancelled the visit two weeks before the event was due to take place. Israeli media reported on Monday that Livni had called off the trip fearing that she would be arrested after a pro-Palestinian group won a warrant for her arrest. But Livni’s office said in a statement after the reports that she had declined a request to attend the event in London due to a scheduling conflict and not because of fears of being arrested.

A feminist movement has accused the Israeli government of adopting a racist policy towards the country’s Ethiopian Jews.

Activists believe black women are deliberately being given a controversial contraceptive drug to bring about a drop in the population – a claim the government denies.

Thousands of Ethiopians have immigrated to Israel since the 1980s, but their Jewish heritage has been questioned, while their social status continues to suffer.

For nearly four years, Racheli Mangoli has been running a youth center in one of Israel’s poorer communities. Forty-five Ethiopian families live here, but throughout that entire time, only one Ethiopian baby has been born in this neighborhood, and that has alarmed Racheli.
