Wael Naouar is on hunger strike in a Tunisian prison. His next court session is September 11 — and it could decide his fate and that of his three co-detainees.

Nearly 6 Months of Unjust Detention
They gave our movement its name.
Wael Nawar, Nabil Chennoufi, Ghassan Henchiri, and Ghassan Bougdiri were arrested in March 2026 on fabricated charges. They organized the 2025 Sumud Convoy that gave our movement its name. They welcomed the first Global Sumud Flotilla to Tunisian shores.
Three of their comrades have already been released. The charges against all of them are baseless. There is no justification for one more day of detention.
In August, Wael Nawar began a hunger strike inside his Tunisian prison cell to protest his continued detention. It is a serious step, taken because months of legal process have brought him no closer to release.
On September 11, a Tunisian court will hold the next session in his case — a hearing that could set the course for his release or extend his detention further. International pressure in the days before that date can shape what happens in the courtroom.
