The United States, Russia and China are sending a terrible message to the rest of the world by refusing to take part in the historic signing of a treaty that bans the production and use of cluster bombs. In a world that is plagued by war, military occupation and terrorism, the involvement of the great military powers in signing and ratifying the agreement would have signaled – if even symbolically – the willingness of these countries to spare civilians’ unjustifiable deaths and the lasting scars of war.
Nonetheless, the incessant activism of many conscientious individuals and organizations came to fruition on December 3-4 when ninety-three countries signed a treaty in Oslo, Norway that bans the weapon, which has killed and maimed many thousands of civilians.

PRESS RELEASE
The Media Review Network is in possession of an e-mail written in English and Afrikaans and emanating from a senior employee of Mercedes Benz – SA. The e-Mail is accompanied by a series of horrendous photographs of the arm of a child being run over by a motor vehicle. The photographs are accompanied by Hebrew text.
The letter is derogatory to say the least and sends very erroneous and inflammatory signals about Islam and Muslims. It fuels 42and demonises the religion.
We have taken this matter up with Mercedes Benz – SA expressing our dismay and disgust. We have asked them to conduct an internal inquiry as soon as possible and that appropriate disciplinary measures be taken against the guilty party. Simultaneously we have requested that a fitting and proper apology be extended to the Muslim community of South Africa
