The Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Kashmir.

Professor Shawl in a statement issued in London said that imposition of strict restrictions in Srinagar on Monday to prevent peaceful protests amounted to strangulation of the freedom of expression and denial of political space.

He said that it was unlawful, undemocratic and fascist measure that entire leadership including APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Firdous Ahmad Shah had been made hostage in the recent iron-fisted policy in the occupied territory. “The only purpose of the protest was to draw the world attention towards the brutalities of the occupation authorities on the innocent people of occupied Kashmir. Curfew-like situation prevailing in the valley had resulted in great hardship for the people, he maintained. Professor Shawl called upon the UN Secretary General, Ban-ki-Moon to impress upon Indian government to stop state terrorism in the occupied territory and create congenial conditions for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
